Precious Friends

Precious Friends

A Poem by Atthis Rose
"

This is a five stanza sonnet from Ruth to her friends. using the metaphor of the most precious gems that are know to man.

"

Precious friends prove life’s rarest gems

Rocks of strength through tremulous times

Diamond hard you’re proven friends

My priceless gems how bright you shine!

My guiding stars through starless nights

The blood red fires of blazing Rubes

Burn bright through the valves of my  heart

These grateful flames that burn for you

Refract each facet from each shard

Your fiery ways your loyal hearts

The Gem of Wisdom, Blue Sapphire

Retains in you hope, faith and truth

This ring bears that gem of power

And balance and reminds  me of you

You channel its celestial hues

Emerald charmed are my bosom friends

Exuding joy in life’s fullness

My heart treasures your vibrant blends

With this pendant upon my breast

Such care free laugh and youthful zest

This bracelet of Gold that I wear

Sets a-light the Gems of your worth quite clear

You’re worth more than the price of Gold

The full tribute lies here untold

Stay forever young, fresh and bold

I'm happy to have inspired you John, thank you for your comment
When I say that I'm inspired by a poem this is what I mean, Rose. Your poem of friendship is perfect in its own right. Here's a spin-off that was inspired by this poem which you may keep as your own as an example of an alternate way of writing on a theme. More verses could have been written using more stones, but this is your poem and not mine. Your gem metaphor is a good one: This is in ababa rhyme with seven syllables per line all in meter with perfect rhyme sounds and no rhyme words used more than once, or forced. It sings like a song when written in this way: Sing it!

Friend

Each friend is a precious gem
rock hard in her loyalty,
studding my life's diadem
with a crystal clarity,
a keen guiding stratagem.

If a ruby were my friend,
she would warm me to the core,
I'd feel passion without end,
she would make my spirits soar,
to realms few now comprehend.

I love this. Friendship is the most valuable thing a person can earn in life. Family we are born with but friends are something we acquire as life goes on. Friends are the family we get to choose. This is a wonderful sentimental piece that i can relate with for sure : )
