Children of the Violin

Children of the Violin

A Poem by Rose Diamond
"

NOTE: I wrote this in grade 7, and I am far too lazy to edit it, so here it is! Please don't judge it too hard, I was 12!

"
Upon her bridge lay all four strings,
G’s deep singing, in our ears it rings,
While D is lighter, his sorrow still plays,
But A sings high for all of her days.
The crown goes to E though, you will see why,
For her little voice can go the most high.

The violin is their mother, their father is bow,
Their aunt is viola, her voice is rather low.
                                Together as a family,
                                They make a perfect harmony.
They sing and weep and sigh,
                                  Bring tears to human eye.

They also like to fool around,
Those silly strings are often found,
Scaring people, giving them a fright,
But for D, A, and E, try as they might,
G is the scariest by the end of the night.
He creeps and crawls up your side,
He’s confident yet silent in his stride.

D is too serious for such silliness,
But A is young and wants to have fun!
                                    E is very mysterious,
                                     She makes listeners curious,
                                       Sometimes she’s sweet and soft,
                                         While others she’s goofing off!

                                 I cannot pick a favourite,
But there’s no contest to win,
                                     For all these little strings,
                                       Are children of the violin.

Reading this poem has really brought back some memories for me. I used to play violin back in middle school, I could have been good if I kept at it, but decided not to sadly. My sister and I and another kid were the only people who had a violin teacher back then, but he was a great teacher! Anyway, the violin is one of my favorite instruments, it has such a beautiful sound and it looks so fragile, so delicate. It can take a lot and achieve it's needed potential. I wish I had kept practicing and learning, I could have been pretty good nowadays as compared to back then.

....Wow....not as solemn and profound as I had expected by the title, but solemn and profound nonetheless, and reads somewhat like a concerto what with its lighthearted and solemn themes and the way it flows. Very playful! I quite enjoyed it. Well done!

This is pretty ingenious. It's playful, yet mysterious, and it takes something simple and makes it unique. A very original piece, I enjoyed it very, very much =]
