Romeo and Juliet are Dead

Romeo and Juliet are Dead

A Poem by DuttonJ

What is the deal with romantic crap these days?
Crooners cater to the roiling masses,
Singin ‘bout all of the good old love days,
When lads would do anything for their lasses.

Apparently.

Romeo loves Juliet and she loves her Romeo,
Though Juliet’s been crying ‘cause poor Tybalt’s gone,
Slain by the hand of her one true dear love,
To avenge Mercutio the good friend undone.

Come on, don’t you know?

Romeo and Juliet are dead!
I’m pretty sure that they both lost their heads.
You can’t believe the lies you’re being fed.
Their path is one that should never be tread.
Oh, no I refuse to head,
Towards pain and tears at story’s end.
And just to make it clear I said,
Romeo and Juliet are dead!

Oh, don’t call me your Juliet.
I can’t say I’d like my guts to be in shreds.
Oh, please, don’t try to be Romeo.
He’s still hung up on that Rosalind ho.

And if your grand idea of romance,
Is double suicide, then I’ll have to pass.
I’ve just gotta know if it’s only me,
That sees Romeo and Juliet as a tragedy.

In any case,

Romeo and Juliet are dead!
I’m pretty sure that they both lost their heads.
You can’t believe the lies you’re being fed.
Their path is one that should never be tread.
Oh, no I refuse to head,
Towards pain and tears at story’s end.
And just to make it clear I said,
Romeo and Juliet are dead!

It’s time to end the cliche train.
I’m bringing a stop to the mass mindless thoughts.
Bring on your good tales of princes and princesses .
I’ll snap the thread on these overused plots!

‘Cause I’m not your princess and you’re not my martyr,
And our love won’t cause anybody to die.
Oh, can’t you see that we’re in love, for now and forever,
And we won’t just end at a whim ‘cause our love defies.

Our love can fly.
Our love won’t die.
Our love gets by.
Yes, we can rely,
On eternal ties.
Darling don’t cry,
Though some rest on high.

Seriously, we’re better than this popularized crap.

Romeo and Juliet are dead!
Romeo and Juliet are dead!
Yeah, Romeo and Juliet and
Juliet and Romeo and
Romeo and Juliet are dead!
