HOVERING TREASURE

HOVERING TREASURE

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ
"

poem

"

       A miniscule, wilful, exhibitionist,

         valiantly entered the garden premises,

surrounded by a worn teak, hexagonal trellis,

drawn instantly to the flame red tulips,

ignoring the jack in the pulpits,

         primroses, anemones and hyacinths,

how rare is this flamboyant sight,

         agile, precocious, light, feathered bright,

expending vast energy with spirited flight,

         fluttering forwards, reversing backwards,

then from side to side, compulsively moving

consumption ensuing,  using its  astute eyes,

defying, redefining, the very pace of time,

propelling it’s wings with high speed robotic

         gear, dissuading thoughts of yesteryear,

         flying jewel, hovering treasure,

equably lapping up, red flower nectar,

         the warm blooded Hummingbird’s

primal endeavour, with its long, protruding

beak of propensity, and pious reign of certainty.

Ill never forget ive seen them on rare occasions in my front yard and tried to go run get my camera to take a shot but everytime i always am too late so nowadays if i am able to see another i will just enjoy the moment... your poem is extraordinary... again your imagery is on a whole other level than what im used too and its rare to find a writer that uses such imagery, and paints beautiful pictures with there words.. you are definitely very special and i am very grateful i got the chance to read your amazing writes, and still plan to read more... Uve done a spectacular work, here and i really enjoyed the journey u took my mind on... from movements, to the flowers... not a detail left out... your detail was crisp and grandiose... spectacular !

coollio, thanks dude!
yes it is an amazing bird... I watch videos of birds all the time, they are such amazing little creatures. I loved the personality you gave it in your first line, and the way you articulated it movements..fluttering forwards reversing backwards. A lovely poem. Enjoyed.

there is a place in our brains that stills our movement, focus's defines our awe ,this little bird combined with your poetic tickling description makes me wounder who's wing he tucked himself under to get north so fast?
