REASONS TO BE PEACEFUL

REASONS TO BE PEACEFUL

A Poem by SHEEMA HUQ
"

Part One

"

If the firearm bullets were shaped like love hearts,

and  engraved with the names of each  targeted

being,  with the names of every  aimed at, expecting mother, baby,

toddler, child, teenager....If descending bombs were

replaced with party balloons, personalised with

the names of every younger,  middle aged and

elderly person, from every war torn region, and in

addition , with each  name of every  victim who

was either killed or had survived, then surely.....

these deadly  conflicts would have

to cease, on both sides, without repercussions or

compromise, with lifelong compensations  and

health care for those affected, with lavish

helpings of humility,  this might even, evoke the

real and pressing cause,  for a safe and peaceful

planet... with scope to please everyone, if only,

these ideas were embraced immediately, as

genuinely , .................... the  definitive path of absolute reason.

Absolutely. Napalm cotton candy and sherbert grenades for everybody. Choco nukes: we can have a global disarmament eat in. First country to completely swallow its nuclear arsenal gets a free box of warm fuzzies personally delivered to the doorstep of every citizen by retired army generals in pink uniforms and moose loafers.

I love the ending. The long elipses and then that bolded phrase. Excellent.

Perhaps I can only say 'if only', a very sad piece that only tell the what if's of reality...

Thank you so much Ency!
reason ,is lost, in some cardboard box by the locker room of life, discarded out grown forgotten ,wrong color, wrong style, too old to be used, reason is lost, but I love the balloon, dangling from the tree, deflated side down.

Another thought provoking prose poem. Me thinks it somewhat optimistic but a sentiment shared by the majority. Unfortunately it is the 'silent' majority who are complicit in such things Sheema.

All too silent perhaps, thank you for your review, John.
You have evoked my own sentiments about war perfectly. It is the poetry that I long for in every heart.
Think then of the life change! Thank you so much.

PS. I no longer vote for those who see war, or even the threat and preparation for it, as the answer. No more! Ever!

Very poignant read, peace should be so simple to achieve, yet it's so elusive, perhaps humankind is too complex and selfish to find that 'absolute reason'.

Thank you so much for reviewing Moon.
I love the idealism you paint here, I think we all ask, if only, why war, why not another way... were there any simple solution, to clean the minds of those who authorize, seek, enjoy, profit from destruction...
