HAVE AN OPULENT EVENING

HAVE AN OPULENT EVENING

A Poem by STRAND
"

I know, I know...god bless America and I'm racist.

"

And I mean it:

May the seams of your dreams be sewn in gold.

This is a post-grace period.

Forget walking humbly amid glassy-eyed angels!

Red carpet on the ceiling -- why not?

Visitors kissing signet rings

Kingmakers, toes in pools of sapphire (real sapphires),

eating limited edition cakes of silver.

And if your children scrape their knees,

they joyfully bleed rubies.

God forbid they sneeze;

snot as amber; smiling fossils within.

Sky-thrones and their cascade,

covering those of us below

in

glory.
