A CONVERSATION WITH CROWS

To hear the crows talk

you must listen.

You must tilt your head so that one ear

is down, the other being up.

Your eyes looking

slightly above the ground.

Can you hear?

Can you hear their distant call?

They are talking of great raids, fresh road kill,

of dead fish washed upon the shore,

and the coming of the sun when all things

began anew.

Can you see them?

Their black wings outstretched as they take flight

or are they just lying to you.
