In the Night

In the Night

A Poem by SamanthaSweeney
"

In the Night memories are made. Things are said and done that can change you forever. Only in the morning do we feel the impact; when the sun brings reality.

"

In the Night

In the night-time you were there to catch my breath,

you were there to warm my face with the hollow in your neck.

Now,

now you aren’t here to warm my back.

Now I miss the soft breathing in my ear that tickled "

the shaking and trembling of a restless sleep.

And on that night

when I couldn’t have your absence

I relished in the forceful crush of your lips.

I swam helplessly

through the waves of your hair "

and you didn’t stop me.

Maybe I’ll never feel the tangle of our fingers entwined;

maybe I’ll never wake with a spice in my nose...

the remnants of your skin.

I might never again feel the tenderness of my inside lip due to the pull of yours.

But baba,

I dropped my past and saw our future just out of reach.

Now your face won’t be creased with the patterns of my pillow,

and my nakedness will never feel as fine as it did with you.

On that night

When a fermented potion gave me the magic to make you mine

My heart

Couldn’t believe it.

I swooned and failed to breathe...

In case I missed it.

Like on that first night where we fought sleep

To talk of things I don’t remember.

The night were I fought the growing room temperature,

And moved into the curve of your body.

On that night I took a promise.

A promise I made myself;

That I would never stop until I’d felt your touch again.

I’d never let my heart breathe with so much room...

That it might absorb yours...

Without your consent.

I kept my promise...

did you keep yours?

And now I wonder,

as I lie where we lay, and look where we loved;

If your fingers run over the words I wrote for you.

Does your heart ever beat and recognize the words that were so true?

I feel blessed to have inspired anyone with my writing.
Thank you again :)
Absolutely lovely and breathtaking piece. I guess this poem is about losing someone who you love, whoever you wrote this to should probably read it. And if he doesn't, it will be his loss.
