Hey, dear Indian.

Hey, dear Indian.

A Poem by Sandra Nair

Hey, dear Indian.

Freedom to think

Freedom to wink

Was taken away from me

Do not drink tea

It's from Bengal.

Do not eat ladoo

It's from Andhra.

Do not enjoy the pictures

It's that of Kerala backwaters.

Hate the Devi temple

It's Kashmir's beauty.

Do not eat the apples

For it is poisoned by

The Himachal.

Spit at the mosque

It's the Muslim spot.

Hug him with a knife

He is a Christian.

Do not visit Tamil Nadu

It is famous for

The Palani temple

Hindu's by all means.

States and castes

Color and parties of politics

Food and views

Have divided the Indians

Have created conflicts

Have destroyed peace

Have curbed rights

But,

India is not cut

For when you divide her

You are no more

In the world

Dear Indian.

You clearly are aware of the inner workings of the Indian political and cultural atmosphere.
It's a real shame how we humans invent divisive concepts which we adopt, only to forget how we got to killing and hurting each other in the first place.
But those souls in humanity enlightened enough to know that it is the inner character of woman or man, manifested through words and deeds (bent on the elevation or destruction of others) that determine how we perceive, receive or reject them. Caste and class are fickle concepts invented to divide and rule.

WELL DONE

Wow...this is so good and true...even in Malaysia we been had an incident call 'peristiwa 13 Mei' or 13 May incident...a fight for Malays and Chinese people...for a simple thing and it takes more than 196 lives....I really don't understand this.....instead of fighting for useless things...why don't we fight for peace for every countries, religions and for everyone?...

Excellent message. Its an important subject you've talked about. Discrimination on caste, religion, culture must be eradicated and instead people should fight together for establishing a stable and united nation as well as caring for HUMANITY.
Really really well written.

Absolutely correct...Instead of fighting on the basis of caste . creed . region and religion we should unite to fight many social issues like dowry . female infanticide and foeticide and rape.... i agree with you and actually you know sometimes after seeing so many communal minds in our country i feel like lava flowing in my veins instead of blood which wants end to all this...Just see recent example that some people feel better to die than to say BHARAT MATA KI JAY...shame on those....Actually , who can change the mindset of people is we youth and we have to definitely work towards it ....
Take care second malala

Wow!! You give an excellent message.Though these sort of feelings or believes still exist within some people unfortunately, but the voice raiser against it, like you, maintain the forever glamour of India. This is very sensitive piece of writing and you manage to portrait it beautifully. And this quality of you , I like the most,as I say you before.Thank you my sister for sharing this.Great piece..
