My Sweet Angel Girl

My Sweet Angel Girl

A Poem by poetforlife

I dreamed of having a little girl after my two sons

but I was reconciled to the fact that I would not have one.

And then you came, a sweet suprise that I could not fortell

You grew inside my tummy and all in my world was well.

Then you were born and cry, you did, so loud that all could hear

they laid you on my chest and I whispered, "mama's here"

You quieted down and looked at me like you knew just who I was

Then and there, my angel girl, your mama fell in love.

I held you in that hospital room and wondered at your beauty

You were the prettiest baby I'd ever see, the nurses called you "cutie"

I could't wait to get you home and love you all my days

They pass so fast, in a blur, something of a haze.

As you grow, your spirit shines and you're so full of life

I want to keep you safe, angel, from all the worldly strife.

You love to sing and dance and show the world your smile

Stay small, my girl, don't grow so fast for just a little while.

I need more time to love you, to teach you right from wrong

so you can learn to protect yourself, and always be safe and strong.

But I feel the wheels spinning like they're leaving me behind

you're growing up so fast, my girl, I want you to stay mine.

We do our hair together, play make-up and perfume

I want you to stay little and I know it is too soon.

But you are so determined to grow before my eyes,

So I just have to watch and guide and sometimes even cry.

What I hope for your future is a love you never dreamed

You hold out for it, sweetheart, no matter what life brings.

Don't settle for any less than my angel girl deserves

Don't let life overcome and break you down and hurt.

Cause you are strong and beautiful, all the things  I'm not

You have a smile to melt the snow and a big beatiful heart.

I will always be here no matter what  your life unfolds

For you, my precious daughter, are my sweet angel girl.

Oh, this is a gem. No matter what this world throws at us, nothing is powerful enough to overcome a mothers love. This is nothing short of spectacular. My favorite lines are as follows:

"They laid you on my chest and I whispered, "mama's here"
"As you grow, your spirit shines and you're so full of life"
"But I feel the wheels spinning like they're leaving me behind"
"You have a smile to melt the snow and a big beatiful heart."

On a constructive note, a couple of small items you may with to address are: 1st stanzy, 3rd line - "fortel" should be foretell... and next to last line, "no matter what your life unfolds" - you might consider replacing "unfolds" with something like "brings"... just a thought; same sentiment, doesn't make a huge difference either way. Excellent piece.. thanks for sharing this!
