Malleus Maleficarum

Malleus Maleficarum

A Poem by Sara
"

dance with the devil in the pale moonlight!

"
Malleus Maleficarum

the feathers of the wild turkeys
adorn my hair in the half-moonlight.
nightingales hoot and owls sing,
confused by the words of my incantation.
the graveyard smells of bonedust and ivy,
the tombstones shift uneasily in the grass,
corpses restless in their gravebeds,
my throaty cackles seeping into their aching
after-dreams. in the town below,
the children cry for their mothers.

baby bones dug up for fertility rites
and curses to fend off false lovers,
locks of milkmaid's hair, acacia,
agrimony and caraway seed
dragon's teeth, snakeskin, and hyssop
boil boil toil and trouble
as I dance around the fairy rings,
kissing my black-eyed prince, and
we coat our lips in sweet lamb's blood
while fires burn and cauldrons bubble.

meet me at the crossroads on a starless
night, grimoire heavy in your hands,
soul stitched on your sleeve with virgin's hair thread.
trust in the old magick, the empress, the chariot,
the resigned, twisted smile of the hanged man.
take my knobby hand, ignore my fire-burnt hair,
i will scry the future in glassy shards,
ink crowley's words upon your skin.
join me, join me…
my black cat's tail twists around your heart.

You write with the pen of the great writers from a long time ago. So many lines stood out in the poem.
"baby bones dug up for fertility rites
and curses to fend off false lovers,"
Such strength in your selection of words and make each line have great meaning.
"kissing my black-eyed prince, and
we coat our lips in sweet lamb's blood
while fires burn and cauldrons bubble."
Remind me of tales of mystery and youth. Being young and not afraid of the night. I like the ending. A outstanding poem. Thank you.
