Not Every Maiden Needs Saving

Not Every Maiden Needs Saving

Not Every Maiden Needs Saving

Upon his horse he sits,

haughty,

proud.

he draws his sword,

and leaps to the ground.

-

"I will save you!" he cries,

raising his sword in the air.

The dragon lumbers nearer,

but I turn away from the knight.

-

From the rack I take a sword,

from the ground,

a shield.

I face the dragon.

-

"Maiden! Take cover!"

It's an order, but I don't listen.

I push the knight aside.

I can fight my own battles.

-

The dragon springs,

the brave knight cowers,

I raise my sword

and steel meets scales.

-

Claws rake the air,

I block with my shield.

Then a blast of fire,

but I've already rolled to safety.

-

This is no normal fairytale.

I am no damsel in distress.

I don't need a knight to save me.

I can fight my own battles.

-

Watch me as I fight,

you'll see me win.

-

Stand aside,

and watch me conquer.

A very good poem and re-write of a fairytale. I like the new hero. No reason a woman can't save the day. Thank you for the excellent poem.

you're conquering gave me hope

but sometimes I act a little helpless just so he'll feel needed, it's just a little subterfuge in the bigger picture
