"To all the beautiful, strong women out there"

Dear Rapist,
I'm tired of covering every inch of my body only to be undressed with your eyes.
I'm tired of holding pepperspray in fear on the days I return late from work.
I'm tired of my heart beat speeding up everytime I cross a deserted alley.
I'm tired of turning back every now and then just to make sure no one is following me.
I'm tired of being greeted by stories of women whose dignity has been stripped just like mine every morning.
I'm tired of walking with my head low like a slain warrior whenever I get eve-teased.
I'm tired of crying every night, trying to mend a broken soul.
I'm tired of washing away the touch of your lusty hands groping my body.
I'm tired of the nightmares that visit me in my misery.
Above all, I'm tired of living a life shadowed by your aura.

Hey guys! Just to clarify I have NOT been raped. However, after reading certain stories about women to whom justice has yet not been served even after 10 years I felt obliged to write this in their honour. Please let me know what you think : )

I think you've captured the mind set of a rape victim here. This was brilliantly done, with intense vocabulary and thought-provoking subject matter. "a life shadowed by your aura" is one of my favorite lines, because it captures the darkness overwhelming the victim as they relive the fear and trauma of the event. Very nice work!
