As I Fall

As I Fall

A Poem by Sayre

And as I am reaching out to you.
Hanging from a cliff, arm stretched and eyes upon yours.
Full of desperation and fear
You don't reach back.

I cried, and let the life leave me as I fell.
Down into the canyon, Drenched in despair
Everything moved slowly as I looked at your from a growing distance.
Tears fell from my eyes, and I watched them float in the sky,
Gliding on the wings of the wind, taking new life as I fall.

The ground approaches. I can see every spec of dirt,
And every thorn on every cactus.
I can see each dried stick in the tumble weeds.
I can hear the sounds of the bird swallows calling to one another.
I can feel, the breath of the sky, and wonder why you left me here to die.

I can hear your footsteps, walking in the opposite direction.
I can hear your tears hit your shoes, and the silent sobs you sing.
I can hear the melody of every stuttering breath you take.
I listened to ever wallow and wail you cried out to me
I focused on every hymn you hummed and every beat your heart made.

And you let me fall.

Wow, very powerful. It very well does put a "physical" picuture on emotional feelings. You make an accusationthat many folks have made on their way down, so to speak... "And you let me fall." I liked the way you started the poem reaching out for someone but end up with nothing to hold onto. Good description and progression. I really liked this.
