Let Me Freeze

Let Me Freeze

A Poem by Sazaku
"

"
Today's sky is an endless, hazy sea.
No leaf anywhere but where it means to be.
The sun smiling just bright enough to guide our way.
Soon, it will all fade away.

White will come in a torrent of frost
beneath a blanket of down the land is lost.
For but a brief respite, a time to prepare
another bounty for all creation to share.

All across this world so wide...
there's no one place where I can hide.
Within the eyes of every passing face - misshapen
is the shadow of a sin I can't escape.

Years ago I'd yet to learn the price,
the weight in gold worthy of a lonely life.
So unbelievably unimportant a sacrifice
performed the deed as sure as a knife.

A loan of blood, borrowed so recklessly.
Interest compounded so... relentlessly.
With every season passed, it grew clear
that which I'd once forsaken had grown dear.

But there was yet still an unpaid toll
though the soul was no longer worth the gold.
If the price was to be fully paid,
a more suitable exchange need be made.

I've made my share of harsh mistakes
but none could ever rival the ache
of another taking the precipitous fall
for the dues of a poor, misguided thrall
fed up with bearing the weight of it all.
Ironically, it's NOW that there's truly a wall -
an impenetrable cloud that I can't shake
haunting my weary heart til I'm wide awake.

So I guess, if somewhere out there you're listening,
I won't bother asking for your forgiveness.
The sin I've committed isn't allowed repenting
but it is worth remembrance.

Gold may be scarce, but blood is finite.
And coincidences are too convenient to believe.
As a decade crawls closed on that terrible night
I'd still rather dealt my life than watch you leave.
Stricken with the knowledge that every heart I saw grieve
I saw only because God didn't just let me freeze.

Your stuff should really be getting more attention--do people not know beauty in words anymore?

Few clean or sinless people in our world.
"The sin I've committed isn't allowed repenting
but it is worth remembrance."
The above lines I understand and I agree with. A wise man don't repeat his bad deeds. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
