The Voice That I Listen To

The Voice That I Listen To

A Poem by Margarette
"

Your mind knows only some things. Your inner voice, your instinct, knows everything. If you listen to what you know instinctively, it will always lead you down the right path.

I cannot wait forever

I need to hear your voice

I may have gone crazy

Please sing to me

The high-pitched tone I’m accustomed of

Carrying the well-versed hymns

Of plain yet uplifting music

That radiates throughout the chorale

I visit every concert and contest you belong to

Just to listen to such melodic charm

Paying attention to each tune you unravel

And becoming more aware of the unsettling feeling inside me

Alas! One night calls for me

You are not there at your usual spot

My dear, why have you not come?

Is it because of ill health, I suppose?

The next events seem rather odd

You should have recovered by then

But you never show up

Just knowing it have me feeling uneasy

I talk to your singing coach

She also not know any of your whereabouts

I know I have to look for you

And bring you back to where you belong

Between buildings, in and out

To where my shadow falls

I have come searching every minute detail

To be of use enough to rescue you

I believe everyday is an endless struggle

Of going through a limitless puzzle

Putting pieces back together

And ultimately reaching the desired outcome

Finally realizing that the song gets stronger

The masked lyrical melody vibrating through the air

Once again after three months, I heard a voice

Following it, I have found you

I see you hurled up in a ball

Crying and desperately looking back

You look so lost in your own world

I have no clue that I cannot be your hero

Do not weep anymore

I know you are still scared

I beg not to let darkness swallow you

You’re not alone anymore so tell me

Your thin hands keep on clutching my shirt

As I approach and sit beside you

Although you have been clinging to life until now

I am here to not just be a hero but as a savior

You stare at me with those teary eyes

I gently wipe the one accumulating on the sides

You act surprised to be treated in such way

How can a stranger be as kind to someone like me?

You grab a paper and a pen

After pouring out a message, you show it to me

The simple words written in such

Only prove that you have lost the meaning of life

Why of all things did I not expect it?

Have I not heed your weakness this won’t happen?

Did I remove this possibility on purpose?

Now that I know, should I leave you?

No it is not right

My heart becomes clenched with fear

It’s unimaginable to think that I, a mere fan of yours

Would have this undying love for you

Do not worry about anything

Everything will flow by just like in a dream

I will walk with you from here onwards

The song gradually becomes more powerful

I will never let you cry again

I will stop to be just someone

Who sees you from a distance

Because today, I will be your voice

“ I have lost my voice”

The short message you gave me

No longer exist in my memory

As I aim to be the voice you live for

My love for you forever stays true

Let us sing once more...

I have written this poem when I was listening to a mellow music. I love blues and slow rock. These kind of music always give me satisfaction and calmness. By the way, THAT day is coming so I think I will stick to writing more of these poems to celebrate it.

Wow, this is an epic of sorts with its rollercoaster of emotions and the musical backdrop...reading this is very much like listening to music, with your mind wandering and tending to other things yet always conscious of the music in the background...there are a lot of metaphors to be found in that place...I can imagine this being read against a backdrop of blues or classical...I'm sure this one holds a lot of significance for you, and you've demonstrated that beautifully :)

There is so much in this that moves me, its gentle yet full of love and sends a wonderful message about caring for those around us, but it also felt like a story, a mystery of sorts. Really great writing.

your welcome
This tells a lovely story through poetry. I especially loved the lines "I believe everyday is an endless struggle/Of going through a limitless puzzle/Putting pieces back together/And ultimately reaching the desired outcome." This piece is very powerful in the sense that a stranger could care so much for someone who feels so weak and helpless - it's beautiful to know that a love like that can exist. Great job. x
