Never Won

We learned of the troubles that he
had when he was young the fight
he helped to end and then the
War he never won. The solders
dieing in his arms and the friend
he couldn't save. And all the torn
and broken parts that washed
away today. He went to heaven
a peaceful man. Thank you
grandpa for fighting for the
freedom of this land.

aww this is lovely and the fact that it occupies a place close to your heart makes it more powerful and meaningful. also i like the fact you have been a tad daring and have changed the format for this poem, what can i say that i havent already before! I love the realism in this as it brings out your raw emotion yet again another beautiful poem :) i bet your grandpa would be proud

S...liked this one but I never escape the feeling that grandpa...in the broadest sense, everyone who fought in wars...never really thought about freedom in the fighting and that they were somehow branded by the experience in a way I could not appreciate. Thanx...made me wonder...bobc
