You forget

You forget

A Poem by Michelle N. H.

Your mind is ill

Your body

An aching shell

Insisting on

Keeping

The remains of a man

Alive

A man who once was

Living

And I see you

As a polaroid picture

In shades of

Black and white

Creased

Trapped

Bound to

A fading frame

Slowly

But surely

Breaking down

You see me never

We are untying

Little by little

Loosening the knot

That binds us

And what once was

Is departing

Is dissolving

In stillness

And sound

Amid memories

You often fail

To remember

And the day will come

When you won't recall

My name

Or my being

Nevertheless

I shall linger

Hold your hand

In waiting

'Till you've reached

The end

And I can let go

Though I feel

Already now

You've been absent

For long

And my hands are

Getting weary

You are weary

And it feels wrong

The first thing, which comes to my mind when I read this piece is..how much each word carry a strong emphasis, how much sadness it radiates. Each word here is so expressive and even screaming for itself. We are in this reality, but somehow we are not. As if you are painter, who is writing and in the same time painting the words. I love how the beginning sounds, the way you create the broken image, the feeling in it, your own emotions...is just great. The person, close and far in the same time, is like resolving in a black and white picture, a shade. I like most:

Your mind is ill
Your body
An aching shell
Insisting on
Keeping
The remains of a man
Alive
A man who once was
Living

Letting go is a theme so many try to share - but understanding just how complex it is ...THAT... most can only live through.

Thanks for peeking in, Chris.
A wonderfully expressed sadness, Ember.
It dies slowly for some of us...quicker for the uncaring and "just sunshine romances"..
Well done Michelle...I really enjoyed this one.
...and smile...

You very welcome.
terribly sad poem that affects me greatly...my dad is in his mid nineties...still pretty healthy in body, but his mind is going...and that is so tough for me to see...he was one of the sharpest people i ever knew...
