Keep My Chin Held High

Keep My Chin Held High

A Poem by Shane-Ashley
"

Part 2 (a continuation of 'The room')

"
''MOMMY! MOMMY!'' i screamed,
but nothing reached her.
''Mommy, why?'' i wimper.
She drags me by the hair, as usual.
but not to the room.....
where am i going?
where is she taking me?
I try to keep up, but my little feet cant.
I cant fight, but i dont want to go.
''please mommy, please.......''
i beg in my mind.
She takes me to the kitchen
I know what this means.
She sits me down, tying me to the chair witha belt.
''Mommy, please? i'll be good! please''  begged
''Shut up! your a bad girl, a very very bad girl''
She gets a match, and lights it.
When she drives it into my arms
I try my best not to scream...
I couldnt contain it.
the more i screamed, the deeper she went.
Why can't i learn?
Why cant i stop being bad?
She stops whenthe match goes out.
''God HATES ME!  why else would
he blow the match out i use to punish you?''
''YOU are a BAD girl! you caused this!''
She slapped me.
I could taste the blood pouring out my mouth
as she slaps harder and harder each time.
When will this end?
When will the pain go away?
I'll just keep my chin high,
and watch as the trouble goes by.
