Fire Spears

Fire Spears

A Poem by Sharon Jodock-King

Stars were out brightly
The silver of the moon slipped
Away slowly behind the hills
Of the city colored lights
As they sparkled upon
Bay waters so calm
In the night's semi-cold air

A fire in a pit is offered
By a kind stranger on the way
To a car as we embarked from ours
And being dragged through swishing sand
In our wheels we soon found ourselves sitting
Staring into flames
Which appeared like fire spears

Sparks flew in the air
As smoke aroused in the burning
Wood being prepared for slender sticks
With pure white marshmallows
Wrapped around ready to be charred
In the fiery speared fire
So cozy with memories
Of camp fires long ago
When one was young rarring for adventure

one can be swallowed up in deep thoughts of peace and comfort gazing into a fire .. your poem is loaded with image making ... your moonset lacks nothing ... hills, city lights and a body of water as she slips below view ... I think even the roughest of lives can find fond memories somewhere eh!? ;)

Such memories you invoke! I've spent many nights staring into flames. Hypnotized by crackling logs and swirling flames, I would dream...
Thanks for reminding me of such times. Beautiful images. Well chosen words. Today, I needed the warmth these words conure. Be well. I will visit again soon.
