The Light

The Light

A Poem by L.G. Knight

I saw a light in the night,
And chased the light with all my might,
And found the light to be bright,
But still I chased with all my might.

I saw the light and had to have,
And had to hold, and had to grab,
And when I grabbed I burned my hand,
But still I just had to have.

I couldn’t let the light just be,
I had to have it all to me,
And when I found I couldn’t see,
Still I had to have it all to me.

I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t quit,
Till what I wanted was a perfect fit,
And when I couldn’t change the fit,
Still I just could not quit.

I saw the light and had to claim,
And had to have, and had to name,
And when I found it couldn’t be tamed,
Still I just had to claim.

I never learned, I never stopped,
Till the light tore me apart,
The light was wild, and to untamed,
It was never meant to be claimed.

I couldn’t have it all to me,
That scene wasn’t meant to be,
But in the toil a lesson was learned,
Don’t rush to fire or you’ll get burned.

So take my story, and take it well,
If something’s to bright, time will tell,
Don’t chase too hard, or go too fast,
For light so bright can’t really last.
