Yella

Yella

A Poem by Shirlena

I'm mellow

I'm yellowed

happy I'm not living for everyone else

but I am living for somebody...la de da de

I'm here for who so ever is here for me

who ta' never that be

I'm conscious easy

I'm in the breeze

I'm on some kind of something don't chu know

it ain't weed and it ain't drinking

but it blows right through me brightly

ain't chu seein

I'm lovin

and I'm fortifide

don't think not cause I cry tears

that's what strength is

not being afraid

trading stress for brave

that is why I'm yellow

black

blue

and red...yeah I said it

I am proud yella

proud to be nappy

proud to have ancestors as slaves

but I bet you can't feel it

might think so but can you...really

well I'm glad I'm is...what ta'  never it is
