The Corner of Broadway

The Corner of Broadway

A Poem by Laura
"

A poor girl's story of struggle on the streets

"
Fallen
An angel falsely accused
Reviled and abused
Upon this cold Earth.

Forgotten
An orphan mused
To wander confused
Through the back allies...

Crying
Walking on alone
"When will Papa come home?"
Her gray tears cascade.

Awake
All night she remembers.
Her life before her dismembers
And the nightmares are so real.

Feeling
The soft kiss of hair
Her skin milky fair
As she whispers "I love you."

Holding
Herself in the night
Telling herself it's alright
To be scared of the bad men

They come
Belts and bats in hand
They say,” Someday you'll understand
That this will make you stronger”.

Screaming
As they pull at her skirt
They say it wont hurt
But she already knows that it will...

Standing
On the corner of Broadway
In her nocturnal sway
Watching her self disappear...

Sweating
Melting all her dreams
Into toxic, sinful streams
That wash away all humanity left in her bones

Fallen
An angel wrongly accused
Spat on and misused
In the bowels of hell.

Forgotten
Until her beaten body is found
A foot beneath the ground
In a shallow, distorted tomb.

Crying
A little girl forever
Waiting eternally for whoever
Will say, " I love you."
