Doleful Passenger

Doleful Passenger

A Poem by Kristallo

I can't get rid of you tonight
Abreast in blanched solitude,
battered in lusterless sea , while
the hooves of Mars bleed
a burnished copper unto your
penniless eyes-
birthing free and lucid.

I know i'm the one to soak
that sea of sick washing in your gaze
Sit tight, i'll fetch you a drink
sip the dew drops from celestial skies
the ashen absinthe of your soul's
montage.

We prepared for the hiding
in abysmal blankets of cosmic refinery
we'll crown the black hole of fate
Together, how I loathe it
our cadaverous hands clasping
some irrational pastel belief
in a dimming abstract destiny.

Such a cunning creature that casts the light out
entombing your fetal heart with
a pallid face of photographic regret
fading into a dismal, filmy

  - white-out -

the bleached reach of refuge
rolling tidal waves of umber
awash in a fleshy bliss that sings in
the skin-deep deluge of
roiling subconsciousness.

I remember when
the path to cerebral abandon
was lined with pining morning glories
budding in amorous abandon
for that sun of a smile that wore you.

In blushing rue horizon
we can capture the snapshots
of cloud cast memory.
The palette of dawn
creasing in your face
lights an impressionist's gaze
for the stagnancy of grace
and still no sacrifice
would strike a chord in you.

You tell me that dreams
don't escape you from
the self serve of destiny
like interloping ghosts they deliver
unto you another brimming
of poignant waking life.
I find myself skimming
the causal madness behind
a mind that trades this cage
for another.

'our cadaverous hands clasping

You have me, as Anne Sexton would say, 'drooling at the mouth-hole'. I feel powerful energy spiraling down and yet summiting as you write on. You're too brilliant and mysterious to follow at times and I think that's one of the things I like best about you. If a poem is to be understood entirely for surface value, then there is some element certainly missing. You are NEVER without that element, fierce as well.. with a distinct curve of feminine beauty throughout.

'for that sun of a smile that wore you.' - pinnacle of brilliance...

ugh ugh, you're too good! I love it. It makes my bones light up!

I know what you mean...
The ending really jumps out even after such a powerful main. I understand your logic and I have to say you put it into poetry very well.

oh man, each stanza is like 12 poems ensconced...I can't sink into the cosmos deep enough to fathom it (an in-eloquent backstroke)...don't slip too deep into poetry to forget what poetry has salvaged of what you feel. that is all.
