Ch1 - Lost

Ch1 - Lost

A Chapter by SinTrustless
"

What if I am never found? What if I am forgotten?

"
The trees of the forest loomed in closer.
Seeming to never end, and never change.
A woman was running thru looking around, pushing against trees as she sprinted.
"Can anyone hear me?!" she called out as she kept running.
She was wearing a nightgown, her long hair free flowing behind her.
She stopped for a moment and looked around, "Hello?!" she shouted with all her might.

There was no response, not even the noise of an animal.
The air was still and silent.
Her face became more panicked and she began running again.
Yet her world seemed an unending loop as she ran.
The landscape didn't change, she made no progress as she ran as fast as she could manage.

She finally stopped again, clearly exhausted.
She shouted again, "Who brought me here?!
Show yourself! Undo this illusion!"
Yet nothing changed, there was only the pounding of her heart.
She began to run again, though her legs and lungs didn't carry her nearly as far.

She stopped, and shouted with all her might.
"Please, please I'll do anything.
Just stop this. Just let me out of this nightmare."
Silence was her only answer.

She dropped to her knees and began to sob.
She cupped her face with her hands as she openly sobbed.
There was no grace to it, no dignity.
She simply sobbed.

Up in a tree was a male, watching her.
He had pitch black hair, and watched her with red eyes.
His ears tapered into a slight point.
He was thin, like he didn't eat properly.
Yet he appeared perhaps seventeen years old.
And his clothing was a black japanese style button up school uniform.
He was sitting on the branch watching her, before seeming to sigh.

He jumped down and landed not far from her.
He walked towards her, but his steps made no noise.
She just continued sobbing.
He stood directly in front of her, his expression looked annoyed.
He finally grabbed her and shook her.
"Wake up so we can both go back to class!" he demanded.
She looked to him as the world around them shattered.

-----

The male opened his eyes with a start.
The teacher in the front of the class seemed oblivious.
The male looked about a moment, all his class mates were demons.
Or mostly human looking.

They had horns, tails, strange markings, some even had wings.
Everyone here was a young demon, and bored.
The teacher droned on about the history of the Empire.
It was pointless, as the history did not actually cover everything.
It started with the gods taking over the place of power, and skipped a couple hundred thousand years till the Heartless Empire was actually formed.

The male sighed, as no one seemed to have noticed his 'nap'.
The school was larger, as it had students from various towns.
A bell chimed, and students packed their bags.
He got up, grabbing his bag and walked out.
Attending this school was pointless in his opinion.
The nearly established laws about ensuring an educated populous was an excuse for something.
He just didn't know what yet.
Perhaps it allowed tracking of powerful demons.
An early warning system for any potential threats.

He didn't care.
No one knew what kind of demon he was anyway.
Every record simply read, 'Unknown'.
And under known abilities it read the same.
He didn't even know what he was.
He couldn't transform into a demon.
He didn't have speed, or strength.
He was on the verge of failing the physical training exam.

In a school, and nation that valued power and strength?
A demon without power was considered useless.
He only continued to even attend the school because of his cousin.
Though he doubted his uncle would even notice if he stopped attending.
The school barely noticed he was here.

As he walked he stopped and watched a girl was by.
She was wearing the female uniform.
She had long hair pulled back to give her a cute appearance.
She was walking with two others girls.
The three of them were talking, gossiping really.

He stared at the middle girl intently.
She noticed him staring, and scoffed.
"Eyes off, weak freak.
Before I rip them from your eye sockets." she said with extreme sass.

He smirked a bit cruelly.
She was the girl from the nightmare.
She had likely fallen asleep in class.
He spoke with his evil smirk, "Don't get lost."

The color in her face drained like she'd seen a ghost.
Her friends didn't seem to take to much note of her instant fear.
"Buzz off, freak." one said, and they ushered her away.
He watched them, before continuing down the hall.
Freak.
That was a rather common nickname he'd acquired.
He walked and walked, until he was out of the school.
He shook his head and just left.
The day wasn't over, but he was done.
It was lunch, kids feel asleep a lot after lunch.

He just walked until he came to a small house.
Compared to the other houses in the area, it was tiny.
The houses were all expensive, and lavish.
This house, was small traditional, not meant for many people.
He went up to the door, and opened it.
Inside was a step up, and he took his shoes off before stepping up.
He set his bag down too, not really caring.

The house went left and right, so he went left.
Sitting was another male, reading.
The other male turned and looked to him.
He had dark red hair, and gold eyes.
This new male looked barely older.
The new male spoke, "Hey, Lanz.
Skipping school again?"

Lanz scoffed a bit, "They wont care.
I don't think they even want me there."
The other male chuckled, "Well, when you point out people's greatest fears they tend to get upset."
Lanz shook his head, "That isn't my fault."
The other male shrugged, and went back to his book.
"Then who's fault is it?"
Lanz sat down, "Clearly it's there's. For falling asleep during school."
The male shrugged, "Maybe you're a sleep demon.
Make people sleepy."
Lanz shoved him and got up, "Except random people fall asleep.
Not like the people around me."
The male shrugged, "Maybe you're just a bad sleep demon?"
"Shut up." Lanz said before heading out of the room, he opened the sliding door to a garden.

He closed the door behind himself and walked over to a pair of slip on shoes.
He slipped them on, and walked to a small shrine.
He stared at the shrine, in silence.
He sighed, and keeled down.
"Mom... I always wonder if you knew what kind of demon I am...
No one who knows something will tell me what they know.
It's like everyone knows a secret they don't want to share.
You always said you'd tell me when I ready..."
He was quiet and looked upset, before he spoke again.
"So why did you die before I was ready?"

Suddenly the slide door opened, and the red haired male was standing there.
"Lanz, we gotta go.
There are guards coming to the house."
Lanz stood up and looked to him, "You sure?"
The red haired male nodded, "Positive.
Hurry up." he said before hurrying back inside.
Lanz looked to the shrine and grabbed a necklace that hung before hurrying inside.
He went to a room.
It was sparsely furnished, no pictures, nothing personal.
He went to the closet and grabbed a bag.
Besides the bag the closet was empty.

He went to the main room, where the red haired male had a bag slung over his back.
He was slipping on shoes, and Lanz did the same.
The red haired male went to the door, before it knocked.
They were both silent, and the male stepped back.
A voice from outside spoke, "City guard, open up."

Lanz looked to the other male.
The red-haired male put both hands against the door.
He focused with a deep breath.
The sound of clanking and collapsing metal could be heard.
The male opened the door, and the group of guards were all collapsed on the ground.
The two moved over them, and passed as they left.
Lanz spoke, "If you can do that, why do we even run when they come?"
The other male spoke, "Because if they knew how I did it, they'd instantly send someone who was immune to kill both of us."

They both walked and spoke.
Lanz spoke first, "Where are we gonna go now?"
"You still have to go to school, so somewhere in the district."
Lanz rolled his eyes, "Come on.
They've been finding us faster and faster.
We need to get further away.
I've completely okay with not going to school."
As they walked they left the town and were in the woods.
The other male shook his head, "No way.
My dad would kill me."
"Promise?" Lanz asked teasingly.
"Shut up, sleep demon."
"You made them sleep, you're the sleep demon!"
"Like I'd be some useless sleep demon.
I'm one of the most powerful species known to demon kind."
"And yet, we run every time the guards come to investigate who randomly moved into an empty house."
The red hair male scowled a bit, "Just shut up."

Reviews would be appreciated.
I've never tried writing Lanz before... so opinions would be nice.
