I'm To Blame

I'm To Blame

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

Nothing is perfect in life. Whether that's bad or good is up to you though. Who really is to blame?

"

I’m too blame

I’m to blame for your problems

I’m the reason you’re misunderstood

I’m reason you’re at the bottom

I’m the reason you’re no good

I’m the reason you’re depressed

I’m the reason you’re not loved

I’m the reason you’re a pest

The reason you’re looked down on from those above

I’m the reason you’re distressed

I’m the reason you are hated

I’m the reason you’re different from the rest

I am the sadness deep inside you still not sated

I am the fear you had forgotten

And the sorrow you’ve yet to feel

Some people call me rotten

But I am very, very real

I am the reason you are lost

I’m the reason you are lonely

I am the payment and the cost

And I stole your one and only

I am the result of every sin

Because of me you’ll never be forgiven

I’ll take from you until I win

And many have crumbled to my knees from the weight of all that I have given

I am fate

I am karma

I am pain

I am grief

I am great

I am every flaw

In every grain in the sands of time

However brief

I am luck

I am decided

I’m all your misfortune together

But I’m the reason your divided

I am life

I sometimes lead to death

I am reality

I am superstition

I am strife

I’m an agreement

I am emotion

I’m the commotion

Made of enough tears to fill the oceans

I am love

I am hate

Everyone knows me

But I have no name

I am the cost of every mistake

And I help you put a price on your life

I am all these things and more

I am what stops this world from being perfect

And it’s true that I’m to blame for all your problems

But you shouldn’t let me stop you

From being happy with your life

I may make it difficult for you, true

But you can treat yourself to a good day, even if it’s just a slice

Be it mental, physical, or emotional, brother

You’ll have to deal with me

You’ll feel pain like no other

If you crumble to knees

And you think your death would end your pain

Would you listen to me please

Because I’m still somewhat sane

I may have caused you your depression

A horrible transgression

But I am only you

And there’s nothing you can do

Because you and me are one and the same

So you should be grateful

As much as you should be hateful

Even if I am to blame

Author's Note

R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
I am your inability to accept a bad situation, to not be able to be happy when you get a less than satisfactory result with anything in your life. Even if you were run over by a car, even if you were hated by your best friend, or your parents, even if you were tortured on your deathbed, I am not your horrible situation. I am how you view it. I am the pain you feel when you are not pleased with something in your reality that you see. Be it the price of houses, or the end of the world. I live inside your inability to accept and be happy with whatever you perceive in your meaningless existence. There is no such thing as a perfect life because you cannot be happy with every last thing in your life. Maybe your coffee was still bitter after adding sugar, or you found out you’ll die of cancer in a year. It doesn’t matter, because whatever it is, I am what stops you from being perfectly happy with whatever you’re experiencing. There is nothing wrong with this. This is simply part of being human.
But in the end, without me you wouldn’t be able to experience something truly remarkable and beautiful. Because my contrast of all those bad things are what makes everything wonderful in your life feel so good. Could you really enjoy the things that make up your life if there wasn't anything that you disliked in some way?

I very seldom reply to reviews, but I promise I read EVERY single one. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be ecstatic to have the chance to hear what you have to say. Whenever you write something about my poems, or the themes of my poems, or criticize me it is not in vain. I will listen, learn and be thankful.

Very well written, I must say. That ending paragraph thing made little to no sense (formatting wise. Message wise it was clear). In the words of Dr. Marsha Linehan, "Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional." This piece represents the basis for many Eastern philosophies. Buddhism, Dao, Yoga, Chinese meditation, etc. This bothered me slightly, though it was seldom: You switched between "I am" and "I'm". I felt like a consistency of either form would make it more powerful. I agree with the message to an extent. Of course outlook has a huge impact on the emotional well-being of any person, though there are some things that are beyond our control. The natural business cycle causes unemployment, genetics are a huge risk factor in any disease/ailment, market failure is the cause of the rigidity of the housing prices, etc. The rhyme scheme got a little out of control near the ending of the poem, though that can easily be looked past. The message at the bottom paragraphed varied drastically, in regards to itself and the poem above it. One moment you're saying there's no such thing as a perfect life, and the next you're saying that it's the outlook that makes it so. The poem above also describes more along the lines that something (the "I") is what causes external issues in the first place. Well, at least that's how I viewed it. This is a very good piece. If I have one question for you, it would be: Why do you have potatoes as your profile picture?!

I'm glad you reviewed my poem. When I fix this poem up in a week or so, I'll definitely change some .. read more
I liked the way you have presented this poem like in the starting of the lines you have taken all the blame on yourself and then you have mentioned the facts about you narrating what you are to your own eyes and in the ending you have expressed your feelings in a very agreeable way.
Whatever happens in your life to some extent you have to blame yourself but never blame yourself so much that it bothers you unconditionally. You are the maker of your own fate it's true but you have to be strong sometimes and leave the rest to god.
