Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to Ashes

A Poem by R.J Calzonetti (SinisterPotatoe)
"

Shorter poem. Fourth in a series of poems involving summer turning to fall, fall turning to winter, and fire turning to ash.

"

The earth smothers my flames

The embers of my respite

The heat of my passion

Ashes to ashes

Warmed by the snow, home in this cold

The sky darkening to charcoal

The gems in the sky

The fingers of flame I called fire

Ashes to ashes

Smoky twilight life

The stars shimmer dimly light

These dimensions of perception

The Night is an empress

Ashes to ashes

Vast as a canyon, the sky is a canvas

Grass pastures capitalize the sunshine

Fresh dirt of my lungs

Breath in slumbers’ annunciations

Ashes to ashes

Dust to dawn

Move on through the songbirds chirp

The bells of churches

Bellowing nurtured first thing in the morning

Ashes to ashes

Songs of Muhammad, Islam

The faith to believe you’re not shattered

When the world is clear as glass

Stained by angels with chainmail halos

Ashes to ashes

Freedom to dawn, focus on calm

Hear the swan of the yonder

The ashes still wander

In clear waters

Ashes to ashes

Warriors are now pacifists

Catch the kiss of the gentle breeze

What tangled webs we humans weave

What makes heart-strung strings to weep

Ashes to ashes

We will still be

In the soul of silver silence I believe

In a quiet faith of endless sea

Carry me across to the other side

Ashes to ashes

Let the river guide our sight of dragonflies

Let the riptide slip n slide

Inside the blue mildew of milky silk

When winter comes, the flowers wilt

Ashes to ashes

Seeds in silt, weeds of freedom

My heart forever bleeding

Fallen for the seasons

There is no demon in my heartbeat

Ashes to ashes

The fire needs starting

I promise I read every single review, and I generally will reply to them. I look forward to my next review, because it helps me learn. Even if it's just one word, I promise, I will be happy to hear anything you feel needs sharing. Whenever you write on my shortcomings or breakthroughs, or the themes of my poems, or share ideas and friendly criticism, it decides my next poem to an extent. I will listen, learn and be thankful. And 99% of the time, you'll get a reply unless you're trolling me.

I just got you published a few seconds ago. Really really loved this one, it's different than your regular style and so I appreciate you a lot for this! All that imagery for season change, I am really loving it, it feels like everything has slowed down in this poem and there's an unusual clarity in this poem. So much I am seeing everything changing, even a leaf falling down from a tree and ashen on humus layer, from behind a glass. And if I make out another meaning from this, it shows the falling sadness that's ashening away and now it's making place of new lively happiness and you're ready to welcome it now.
Keep writing!
Good Luck.

Yes soon :) You don't have to miss them for long I guess.
We are treated to a cascade of unique images in this one, and since this is one of a series celebrating the seasons, these images call up memories of autumn. One could almost feel the chill on the night air. The encompassing theme seems to be impermanence, for we are reminded in each verse, "ashes to ashes." Quite a beautiful offering here.
