The Price?

The Price?

A Poem by Jon Cooper

Forever
It's too much time too think
About life
About love
About death
And about hate
Years to spend cold with nothing to show
Nothing, except emotional scars
A loner's mentality
Don't let anyone near
Don't let anyone hurt you again
It isn't safe anymore
Not unless you're alone
Alone you can be free
You can be safe
You can almost be happy
But with it comes the price
To be alone is safety
To be alone is sadness
Damned if you do
Damned if you don't
Cringing at every movement
Every sound
Every thought of them
Like a rusty knife in your heart
Day by day, sadness grows
Day by day, you're closer to safety
But you aren't sure anymore
Perhaps safety isn't worth the price
The price of loneliness
The price of timeless hours of agonizing thoughts
Maybe damned if you do wins...
Maybe being alone is worse
Perhaps
What's to be lost?
Another piece of your heart
Another piece of your soul
Gone
Perhaps...
But what if everything is already lost?
Maybe then...
Maybe then it's okay
Perhaps......
Yes, then it's okay
Nothing left to lose
Justification
Time, once more
To descend into hell
If only I had more to offer
