Grim Future

Grim Future

A Poem by SleepingDragon

A grim future awaits us all

As the storm clouds gather

Against the coming darkness

Specks of humanity’s hope

The deranged stampede on

Mouths open, minds shut

Searching the darkest corners

For anything to inflame them

Sanity and brotherhood sacrificed

In the maw of the rage machine

Its thirst unending, never sated

Sparing none in its tempestuous fury

The agitators play their fine tune

And like fools we dance to it

United in foolish indignation

Unconcerned with ramifications

We repeat the sins of history

While claiming enlightenment

The revival of the Inquisition

To grace this new Dark Age

There is but one ‘truth’

All else cannot exist

Shield the holy narrative

Bury all who dissent

History repeats itself again,

And we are damned to relive it

Can this train be diverted,

Before it plunges into the abyss?

A sad reflection on current affairs Sebastian. You took me to many places and I didn't enjoy those travels particularly. I am spending far more time in my garden at the moment. Your poem is well written and your thoughts conveyed well. You gave me imagery of chaos. Yes we need this train derailed and quickly. We live in dark times.
