Chess

Chess

A Poem by Andromeda
"

about a divorce

"

Chess was the game

They used to play

When they had

Minds to use

And dreams to spend:

Queens and castles

Still to win.

Chess was the game

That sent them off to war;

Chess was the game

That led them to my door.

Their hands had been

Separated;

Their hopes torn in two.

Their hearts blue

And

Their lies all-true.

Chess was the game

They used to play

When they had

Minds to use

And dreams to spend:

And daily, loving wishes

Still to send.

Chess was the game

That sent him to the bar

And

Chess was the game

That left with her in the car.

Queens and castles

They tried to

From each other

Win,

But

In the end,

Chess was the game

That signed the papers

In my office and

Sent both their kings

To the gallows.

No, I like the end. I like that it has the rhymes until the last line, which works, because "gallows" are end, and they are very abrupt, like this.
