Jordan meets Zack...

"

I have to say, that diner food was amazing. Not good, but amazing. The bacon was made exactly the right way, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. Of course the waiter entered my mind several times during my breakfast, but I still enjoyed it. I saw him walk out a couple of times, and those times he always glanced my way. I tried to read his name tag, but my eyes failed me.

When I was done eating I went back outside and was hit with heat waves that quickly caused tiny beads of sweat to roll down my cheeks, and my hands to get all clammy. The street was long, it kind of looked like a never ending street with buildings and stores scattered on either side. I decided to look in a clothing store to cool off.

And bought a few things. With Jake's money of course.

I bought a top that was just plain blue, with a black stripe across it, most likely for a party or something like that. I also bought another top that was green and plaid, and then I got a blue sun dress that reached just above my knees.

I walked down the street, looking at the different buildings and at different people...and not receiving any good looks back. The buildings gave off some good shade, but not enough to keep cool. As I was walking I didn't realize the noise had stopped and I had cut through a parking lot, almost on the other side now.

I stopped suddenly, looking at my surroundings. Few cars scattered around the parking lot, and random seagulls broke the silence above me. I clutched my bag and looked behind me, seeing people walking but not hearing them.

It was like I was near everyone, but so far away.

My feet stood where they were as my eyes darted everywhere. Then I took a step forward.

That's when I heard them. And my heart sped up as I looked over at the other street.

Two or three, I'm not sure, guys on dirt bikes drove up the other street and turned into the parking lot. They all parked, then seemed to notice me. “Hey,?” the one with black hair yelled. They looked sixteen, seventeen maybe.

I nodded, unsure as my heart raced and my mind spun, then turned around. “Wait, stop!"

Looking behind me I saw them walking up to me. My mind told me to run, but my legs wouldn't go any faster. My breathing quickened as I thought the worse. Just my luck, the sun happened to slip through two buildings and started to blind me. I cupped a hand over my eyes, trying desperately to get away.

Then something happened.

Hey, Kyle, stop.” I jumped, then looked up through my bangs to see the waiter walking towards us. “Don't scare her you idiot.” When he reached me he put on a smile. “Sorry about my brother and his friends.”

I looked behind me at the boys who caught up. The one who must be Kyle shrugged. “She looked lost.”

I smiled while looking at Kyle, my heart slowing to its normal beat, but my face beat red. “Yeah...I was.” Then I looked back at the Waiter and cocked my head. “Why are you here?”

He pointed over to a black beat up car that literally looked like it just came from the junk yard, then laughed. “Getting my 'ride.'” He quoted the last word with his fingers.

Despite everything, I laughed along with him. “Lovely.”

He smiled that charming smile I loved so much at the diner. It brightened his grassy green eyes and his white smile just made everything better. I absently tucked a piece of hair behind my hear. We kind of just stood there for a moment, looking around at anything but at each other. I heard his brother and his friends departing, but didn't look behind me.

Well then,” I finally said, tucking another piece of hair behind my ear, “I gotta get going home.”

I walked past him with my head down, but didn't get far because he grabbed my arm lightly. “I can give you a ride if you want.”

I stared at him for a moment debating if I should get in a car with him. Well...he seems nice, what should I worry about? So I nodded. “I'd like that.” He went and opened the car door for me like a gentleman, then got in on his side.

So,” he said while putting the car in drive, “where do you live?” I gave him my address.

I stared ahead absently, refusing to look at his eyes. “I live with my husband.” Sadly. Just after I said it I felt stupid...why would he care who I lived with? I felt like giving myself a face-palm.

Oh, you're married?” he asked while turning the corner, and I slightly saw his arm muscles flex.

Yeah.” I said dryly, hating the thought of being married to Jake.

He smiled, clearly oblivious to my thoughts. “Doesn't sound like you're happy about it.”

I glanced at him, then forced a smile I knew he didn't buy. “It's complicated.”

He cocked his head to the right, then looked at me questionably. “How so?”

I didn't answer his question. I stared ahead, my thoughts so full I didn't even know they were there anymore. Like my relationship with Jake, numb. I raked my hand through my hair. He took that as a sign I wasn't going to answer and kept driving silently.

By the way,” he added, “I'm Zack.”

I glanced at him. “Hey, I'm Jordan.”

Nice name.”

Thanks...oh that's my place.” I pointed to the brown building that was coming up. “Thanks so much for the ride, Zack.” I opened the door to get out.

He grinned, shaking his head to move his dark shaggy hair from his face. “Anytime. See you around?”

I slammed the door shut and bent down to look through the open window. “Yeah, um, maybe I'll come by tomorrow.”

Awesome,” I stood up as he put the car in reverse, looking behind him, “bye Jordan.”

I waved silently until I saw his car disappear into the traffic. Then he was gone.

Just like that.

And I was left with sadness. A sadness that was building up, making it harder to breath. It felt like my lungs wanted to stop working right there. But why was I so sad? Because I didn't want him o leave? Or because of my depressing relationship? Or both?

I stood for a few more moments, then went up to my apartment, my throat tightening the whole way up the elevator.

I went up to the apartment and sat on the couch, clutching my throat. It went all dry and warm, clenched and unclenched, finally making me double over onto the floor and roll into a ball. My heart sped up again as my breathing quickened. Then suddenly it pushed back down to my stomach, it felt like whatever 'dropped' from my throat hit the bottom, then I had just enough time and energy to run to the bathroom as it came back up again, causing me to throw up. I clutched the toilet seat so hard my hands were white, then threw up again. My hair fell in my face as more came out.

For a moment my mind went blank and I felt myself falling, but then I snapped back into it and held the toilet tighter. My head started pounding like crazy, and I had enough strength to sit back against the wall.

The next thing I knew there was a knock on the door, then everything going black.

I agree with the person below, it did seem kind of personal when he asked her that, and I would have had her think 'oh, what is my life worth anyways?' when she excepted the ride from Zack, because it is really dangerious to hop in a car with a stranger,
just ideas!! really great chapter, looking forward to read more!!:D

Hm, i wonder what's wrong with her, is she pregnant?! That was kinda personal of him to ask who she lived with. oh and since theyr'ealready introduced, u could just have her say her name instead of saying hey.
