(Chapter Name Undecided)

A Chapter by Somer

I could hear Jake in the living room yelling at his TV, cheering on his favourite football team as I made chicken and rice for dinner. Just like Danielle told me, Jake did come home like he said he would. So Danielle, Jake and myself ended up spending the day together.

I can't say it's been a horrible day, seeing as all has been calm around here. Jake never found out about Luke, or Zack for that matter. And I plan to keep it that way. Shouldn't be a problem since I plan to never see either of them again and just keep to myself.

I felt a hand snake around my waist, snapping me out of my train of thought. “Oh, hey Jake.” I could feel his warm breath lingering on my skin.

He put his lips to my neck, rocking back and forth as if a song was playing in the background. “Can I talk to you later?” his voice was almost a whisper.

I went along with his movements, hiding my nervousness. “About?”

He stopped and turned me around. His eyes bore into mine until I had to look away. He placed his finger under my chin and lightly turned my face back towards his. “Something very important to me, we'll talk later, once Danielle's gone, yes?”

Just at that moment, as I stared into his eyes, memories of the Jake that use to be so nice, so caring, filled up my brain. The day of our wedding, the first time we made love, everything that made me fall for him was racing through my mind. The way he was looking at me, talking to me, almost made everything bad seem like a horrible nightmare that I just woke up from.

However, I knew better then to believe his soft, caring tones. He's manipulative, it's how he is. I hate him, I reminded myself. “Okay,” I whispered.

He raked his hands through my hair. “Great. Now, when's this dinner ready?” He took a peak over my shoulder.

I used that as an excuse to turn around and check the chicken. I cleared my throat. “Give me five minutes, okay?”

He kissed my cheek, it took everything in my power not to cringe. “Okay.”

Just as Jake walked out, Danielle walked in. “Do you need any help Jordan?”

I forced a smile as I shook my head. “Nope, but thanks.”

Taking the chicken out of the oven I placed it on the counter. I added a scoop of rice to each plate along with a fist size chicken. The over all outcome looked okay, weather it tasted good was the real question. “Come and get it!”

I watched as the two walked in, Jake's eyes on me the whole time.

Ignoring his intense stare, I grabbed my plate and walked out to the living room.

"

Jake just finished eating his third plate of dinner as Danielle stood up. “Well, I better get going.” She smoothed down her skirt before looking at both of us.

At the same time, Jake and I stood up. “Have a great night Danielle,” He said as he placed his hand on her waist, leading her to the door. “See you bright and early tomorrow?”

Danielle had a huge smile plastered on her face as she beamed up at Jake. “Thank you, I'll see you then.” She turned to me, her expression never faltering. “Bye, Jordan. Thanks for the dinner.”

I nodded. “Bye Danielle.” The door closed behind her and Jake turned around.

Finally,” he took my hand and led me to the couch, tossing the paper plates on the coffee table, “we're alone.”

Letting my hair fall in front of my face I smiled. At a loss for words, I watched as he stroked the palm of my hand. If I just closed my eyes and pretended we were back to the first week we met...

Jordan?” he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear as I looked up. “Did you hear what I said?”

Just for an instant I saw a flash of anger go through his eyes. “Sorry, no.” I wiped away what I was previously thinking, ashamed of myself.

I saw his jaw tighten for a moment. “I have a question I needed to ask you, don't tell me you forgot already.”

I shook my head frantically. “Of course I didn't forget.”

He glared at me as the silence crept on, for a moment I thought he wasn't going to say anything. “Don't you want to know?”

Squeezing his hand, I nodded. “Of course.”

Then why didn't you say so.”

I was waiting for you to say something.”

Right.” He slid closer to me as he continued to stroke my palm. “Well, as you know, my job is very important to me.” I nodded. “We have this dinner coming up this weekend, a very important dinner, and I'd like for you to be there.”

As soon as it came out I instantly felt relieved, thankful it wasn't anything bad. “Of course, I'd love to go.”

His lips turned upward in a lopsided grin. “You're going to be the best looking one there.”

I squeezed his hand. “Aren't I always?”
