Billy From Philly

Billy From Philly

A Poem by SoulCrusader (Yas)

My name is Billy, I live on the backstreets of Philly. Well I’m homeless and may well as be nameless.

People pass me by, don’t even wanna look, it feels like I don’t exist, like I’m some kinda disease, some kinda unwanted statistic.

Hey Mr President, you call this civilisation, the democracy to look up to, the ideals you wanna instil on others. But I got a message for you, just open your eyes and take a good look at your own backyard.

…………. Yeah yeah, that’s right, yeah just ignore me, just walk on by, keep on walking, don’t let me spoil your photo opportunity.

nice line here:
"People pass me by, don’t even wanna look, it feels like I don’t exist, like I’m some kinda disease, some kinda unwanted statistic."
really feeling felt.
This is indeed powerful, real, truth speaking of life, nice write, not too long, but it tells a lot.

It's true, we spend so much time worrying about other countries in the third world, when our own 'first world' is so f*****g broken. We have immigration, and for now that should be enough: open our gates to those who would wish entrance; but let's make sure we have our own wounds healed first, yes?

I love this poem. I liked the emotions within it. I loved the ending too. It really was powerful. It does tell a lot by just reading the stanzas. I think you did a really nice job. Thanks for sharing. :)

"Hey Mr President, you call this civilisation" and "yeah just ignore me, just walk on by, keep on walking, don’t let me spoil your photo opportunity" are my favorite lines in the whole poem. Sad thing is, it's true.

It is very true. I always try to smile at homeless people when I walk past. There aren't many around where I live though, which is good.

"some kinda unwanted statistic"
very nice way to put it!

That's so true! All to often even I walk on by. I'm ashamed of myself. Thanks for the eye-opener!:)

This is such a powerful, poignant write, Yas.
...and you know what, we're all guilty of walking on by and looking but not seeing...
it makes us feel uncomfortable...for whatever reason.
The beat of this poem belies the seriousness of content...
I loved it

I like this! Honest, to the point...I like blunt pieces.

Oh man, if only the homeless people acted like that---they scare the hell out of me by screaming profanities at me and sometimes physically coming after me.

Or maybe that's just in Philly.
