Beautiful Woman

Beautiful Woman

A Poem by SpokenWord
"

What do you see when you look into a mirror?

"
What lies in the mind of a beautiful woman
who can see beauty even in darkness
but is blind to the beauty that resides
inside her heart and streams out her flesh
like sweet ambrosia from Goddess Venus
humbling men to the point of speechlessness
stealing his confidence from a single glance
but when she looks in the mirror
she doesn't see beauty
she sees instead
imperfections

What lives in the heart of a beautiful woman
who decides that a man with a knife
can re-create her more perfectly
than the God who gave her life
as if each breathe she takes
is into a body that is some how
not worthy to be considered God's temple
When she looks in the mirror
she doesn't see perfection
she sees instead
eyes that should be blue
lips that are too thin
a nose that is too thick
breast that are too small
a stomach that isn't flat
who told her beauty is shallow
and not diverse in nature?

What possess the soul of a beautiful woman
who is told by others of her beauty
and instead of her recognizing it with a thank you
she rejects them with an explanation
of why she isn't beautiful in the first place
as if beauty isn't in the eye of the beholder

Beauty comes from inside of us
and is expressed outside ourselves
what we think in our minds
and what we believe in our hearts
will live in our soul and be
reflected in the reflection
of self image in the mirror

Ask yourself
what is beauty anyway?

beauty isn't skin deep..and we all have to wake up and embrace this fact..perfection is just a notion..and may be everyone's perfect the way they are..and there is absolutely no need to improvise perfection..is there?
"will live in our soul and be
reflected in the reflection
of self image in the mirror"..couldn't agree more..love this one !

Amazing. It's something we struggle with every day I think. I like to think that I'm better than that to myself - but I know ultimately it's not true. There's the confidence you get so used to pouring out for the world, but then sometimes, you still look in the mirror and think "I don't like this body" in some form or fashion. It's so easy to push others into loving themselves, I have the hardest time with ME. Thanks for this!

OH my...outstanding work..each woman relates to this with an ounce of guilt, as your perception of our species is on point..and because you have balanced this with spiritual perceptions ..glorious work..and a firm favourite..

this is a great poem about women. We are trained from early ages to try to look good, be good friends, be kind, be gentle, learn to cook, keep house, be a good girlfriend/wife, and when we have kid be a good mother and put ourselves second to everyone and then to top it off we are told we need to look good for our man because there is a potienal that if we don't do all these thing right that he will leave. There are many more things I could add to this list but well it would take two pages. This is why we do the things we do. In one day I try to make sure I do the best I can at my job, make sure my son's needs are taken care of, be presentable to others, cooking and cleaning and then what ever else comes up. That is everyday. Some days the list is longer and more complicated and men wonder why women get grouchy. Try feeling pressured from every aspect of life all trying to be a good woman.

Most women don't see themselves reflected in the mirror, but a lesser version of themselves. This poem describes that very well. Beauty is a personal matter, nobody can ever tell you what beautiful is, everyone has to figure that out for themselves.

@Liza with a Z!

I think your comments here are great and everyone should read them. I know as a man that our eyes truly betray who we are really inside and we often first see beauty as only skin deep, it shows we are shallow but know that after the initial shock of visual beauty or lack of it, we eventually see into the woman's soul.

i have thought about this lots; and i'm so happy someone wrote about it and i got to read it!!!!!! i love reading about beauty; seeing people's perception of it...there are so many! you should check out this online movie on amazon named beauty from the eyes of the beheld. beauty is a double edged sword...just like intelligence...just like strength...just like wealth. it is a powerful tool to attract attention, love and open the door of opportunites...but those that do not hold the beauty - are out to bring you down and show your ugliness...
doesn't everyone want to be beautiful???? i'm not sayiing to the point where you're out just feeling entitled because of your beauty but our eyes like to see beauty...a beautiful baby, a beautiful dress, a beautiful animal, a flower....something easy on the eyes
Because i have been afraid of my own beauty - always thinking that men like me just for it - i have not ran away from it but see intentions a lot quicker....

some go to the lengths to destroy their beauty by gaining weight, covering their beauty and downgrading themselves in the eyes of potential envy

beauty in my eyes is someone that can love themselves inside their skin...but still appreciate the skin they carry by not feeling ashamed by it - it is a balance - our youth is beauty - we will not always be outwardly beautiful but we can always act ugly
