An Ode to Love's Union

An Ode to Love's Union

A Poem by Latonya Hughes

I write for you this ode, my precious dear,

In hopes that it will reach you by the morn.

To you, I give a love that is sincere,

My kiss, upon your heart, I will adorn.

And let no man or woman interfere,

And let us be protected from love's scorn.

With aspiration and intention clear,

Of happiness and faith, in pledges sworn.

If fate should ever happen our demise,

Then cast aside my heart, as if a stone.

May day forlorn, and promise compromised,

Through blessings and forgiveness, be atoned.

And may the grace of Heaven fertilize,

The seeds of our love's union, yet unsown.

Author's Note

Latonya Hughes
This is the first sonnet that I'd ever written. I understand that it is not in the traditional format of the English or Italian sonnet, so please forgive the syntax. I hope you enjoy the read!
