Ache

Ache

A Poem by Starling

I ache in wine
and listlessness
numbing a fire
that spreads beyond fear
I can feel its heat
rising up from me
its hollowing blaze
undoused by tears

I shake in despair
and nervousness
a weighted sheet
that covers me whole
I can hear its silence
pressing on my soul
its invisible words
taking their toll

I ache in dread
and restlessness
time quickens, yet
stays frozen in place
I can sense its passing
pulsing in its pace
as a heartbeat skips
through empty space

when it is too easy to surrender
and it is too hard to remember
when it all seems never-ending

I shake

as the curtains are drawn aside
and the light dawns after night
as the fire once more ignites

I ache.

love-"hear its silence"- opposites "too hard" "too easy", assonance, alliteration, feeling of fear, yet numbness- the cadence is perfect
