Return To The Mountains

Return To The Mountains

A Poem by Steven Pottle

“This thing is impossible…”
Will we meet this Summer?
Or will it be in the Fall?
Another hopeful postcard that a hopeful someone receives

I miss that sensation of optimism
I miss the feelings of freedom
And I miss him too…

Would I be happier to escape to heaven?
Or stay here in life?

I am helpless to that memory
And afraid of what it will do to me
In my mind I return to that mountain every time

We slide through time and will do nothing for ourselves in return
We gladly carry hurt and pain and regret on our backs
So why can’t we ever embrace the pleasure of hope?

It kills me to believe that you want this too…

“This thing is impossible…”
Will it ever end?
Or does it carry on forever?
I wish I knew how to give you up
But I cannot.

Will I ever return to those mountains with you?
