Two Night

Two Night

A Poem by Steven Pottle

I am now blessed with Whiskey and Coke
Feeling the hot spirit match my own warm throat
I don’t have to pray anymore to anyone or anything
My life is sometimes the best and sometimes a mess
But I try to make it some kind of self effort best

We all click on and off the living room lights
Hoping that someone will see these signs of life
My best attempts may turn stomachs and opinions
But the outcome is usually blinding and brilliant
Directing the bad days into fantastic nights

And in the middle of the night I am held
Sometimes it’s in his arms, other times they’re just mine
His heart beats quickly and double speeds my chest
Was it the moonlight pouring in through the dark nets
Or was it the breath on the back of my neck?

At times there is an unspoken vibe-
One that seeks and another that drives
One day these forces will collide and fall side by side
And left in it’s place will be a trade of lives
A new thing that speaks of the beginning and the never end of tonight.
