A Full Moon is Upon You! - A Grim Tale...

A Story by Stephen Odom
"

A boy finds the creature is not just a creepy Halloween story

"

He stood there frozen in complete terror. The creature in front of him, the one he thought could only be from legend was real. It was hanging from the tree by one of its razor sharp claws; the other claw could easily touch the ground nearly ten feet away. Its skin was paper thin and looked like it would crack at a moments notice but its muscles rippled nonetheless under its papery skin. Eyes the color of freshly spilled blood, fangs reaching over his lips. The creature dropped down from the tree shaking the cars on the suburb street. The boy had been mere minutes away from entering his house. The creature sniffed him up and down his breath smelled of things long since dead.

The boy ran. He was going to die anyway he might as well try to make it home. Not the most athletic person he ran. Muscles and lungs burning from the exertion of running at full speed, he couldn’t keep this up until he got home. He needed to get home; it couldn’t cross the threshold, like many creatures of the night. But it was useless. Less then fifty feet from where he started running the creature slid to a stop in front of the boy. Why was this thing real? This Grim. The creature looked into the boy’s eyes a soul shattering experience as the boy could now feel the last victims of the Grim, pleading for their lives just as he was about to do. But the beast didn’t want to wait, its struck in a flash piercing through the boys torso in a fraction of a second.

“Just accept your fate,” it whispered in his ear. Every atom of the boys existence burned with such pain he couldn’t even process it anymore. The Grim pulled its claw out of the boy’s body bringing with it his soul.

Looking down at his body he began to weep. He was dead by this creature’s hand, soon this thing would eat his body making him watch and then it would finally consume him entirely. The boy would be reported missing like many did on the night of a full moon, that is the only time when the Grim could come out of his hiding spot. Just hope there isn’t one near you. A full moon is upon you soon.

Hmh.

I'm a fan of scary stuff.
I really like it when people try to turn my imagination against me, which I learned is horribly easy in my case.

This story is good. Not much of a story but a figment. I think this is about... 75% of the story. I'd like to see more exposition on the POV character, and maybe some more description in the middle.

The ending is perfect.
I saw that you wrote a book, I'll check it out later,
Thanks for the story mate.

Extremely descriptive. I like it.

I hope it is ok to make a suggestion. The "why was this thing real?" feels slightly out of place in your narrative, to me.

Keep up the great work!
