This Is Not A Love Story

This Is Not A Love Story

A Poem by Suzanne Deakins

This is not a love story

But a tale of those who

give in to love

living a vision

We have confused a fairy-tale

With the craving of the soul

and longing of the heart

to be branded by another

We put on our masks

and take false names.

Adorning our consciousness

with roles suited to the

fantasy of the love myth

we danced.

A rather mundane life

made into an astonishing

story of love existing in

a shocking reality

We believed it was a love story

a story we wanted

dreams dancing

under the masks of  the ball.

The music stops

and lights go out

and our masks are

dropped one last time

This is the love story

we wrote in our dreams

danced in our fantasy

and finally accepted as our own.

This is great!

This is a very powerful piece and I think it may speak differently to every person.
Again, great work,
