Take to the wind

Take to the wind

A Poem by Alys Jackson
"

I want to fly away from my home and see the world from a bird's eye view.

"

Flat rooftop, 5th Avenue, New York

He stands there,

Hand out-stretched.

He calls me on,

He wants to take  to the wind.

All around us,

On other flat roofs,

Others take flight,

They take to the wind.

I'm different to my family,

And so is my brother.

We have great wings on our back,

We can take to the wind.

My wings are white,

Tower high above my head.

Light and delicate,

I can take to the wind.

The wind rustles through his hair,

Flying about his face.

I take his hand,

Everyone takes to the wind.

Over 43rd street,

Under the great blue sky.

Pedestrians gaped up at us,

When we took to the wind.

His hand in mine,

He smiles across to me.

I knew I was safe with him,

As we took to the wind.

Sorry if the tense is a bit mixed up. I'm not sure if it's meant to be past or present. I don't live in New York but it felt like the right setting. I wish I had wings so I could fly away from my home in Milton Keynes and lead my own life.

This is really good. I'd put i in present tense because it seems like your writing it as you're flying, but some may prefer it in past, it's just how I feel. I like the second to last verse best because of the way you said: "Pedestrians gaped up at us".
