Sonnet of False Hope

Sonnet of False Hope

A Poem by Mike L. Smyth

My heart aches when I gaze upon your beautiful face

I know not why I love you so very dear

You feel nothing for me, between us there is space

You glance at me, but it holds so very mere

You lie through your teeth; you smile in your sleep

This love I have for you is untold to anyone

I dare not ask, for you may make me weep

Your presence brightens my day, as if you’re the sun

Looking at your hollow eyes, there’s nothing there to see

This feeling I can’t explain, heavy emotions with horrible pain

I see my past mistakes, glaring right back at me

You have nothing to lose, I have everything to gain

You are my deadly poison, my love is like medicine

If love were ever forbidden, I am full of sin
