False Fray from a Fictitious Forte

False Fray from a Fictitious Forte

A Poem by Zach Gordano

If you only knew how sorry I am.
Exactly what we did not want to happen,
Takes place right in front of our eyes.
I told you I did not want to fight.
And that is the truth.
And it is scaring you
Because it is exactly what went wrong.
And it is scaring the life out of me
Because I know it's driving you away.
But if you see what happened to me,
You could understand this.
No need for sympathy,
Just empathy.

You should not have to deal with
My petty bullshit,
For it is not how I really feel,
Nor is it what I want.
You know exactly what I want:
You.
And today, I drove the nail
Deeper and deeper into our coffin.
It's almost like I am ready to rest inside of it,
But if you only knew the lengths I would drive
To bask in your love again.

And all the bad things I say,
Come from exhaustion.
I am worn out.
My brain needs the rest it's not getting.
But the good things come straight from the heart,
The workhorse that never skips a beat.
But the mind cannot think straight without you.
For you, my love,
Are my sanity.
And without you,
I suffer dementia.
