The City; Graveyard of Broken Dreams.

The City; Graveyard of Broken Dreams.

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

The crack of dawn has broken

Over the City in the Sun

Yet another morning’s started

And another day begun.

People mill about like termites

Like automatons; like slaves

Earthy mounds in the streets mark

Where dreams lie in shallow graves.

And they walk with stony faces

You cannot tell foe from ally

And everywhere they whisper

Of dreams strangled in dark alleys.

It’s the City in the Sun

Where compassion’s obsolete

People pass, uncaring

The dream begging in the street.

Like our hopes the sun is sunken

And the moon in dark sky gleams

Over the heartless City;

Graveyard of broken dreams…

This is a sad poem that describes truth. I can picture this town and it's people. It is going on around the world. We should all be nervous.
The lines, "And everywhere they whisper
Of dreams strangled in dark alleys" I find interesting. I wonder what your own thoughts were behind these lines. Very good job. Christy

A brilliant and a smart poem. You describe the raw truth of our lifes, where people are lost and confused, where they become victims of society and lead a monotone life. Very well written. Keep it up.

A powerful poem. A lot of truth for the people of today. Jobs are becoming less. People are lost and confused. People struggle to break even. I like the feel and emotion of this poem. I live in Detroit area. The cities are dying and no-one cared. A outstanding poem. You write with logic and a honest vision. That is the job of a writer.
