Bacchanalian Orgy

Bacchanalian Orgy

A Poem by T.S. Ulmus
"

I meant "orgy" in the religious sense here, though invoking Bacchus certainly blurs the distinction between the definitions.

"
Hours before the stupor,
glowing swarming flies.
Some will wander, others loopers.
An absurd revelry plies
kissing, covorting elated.
Ravage gnashing and snarls,
passionate embraces donated,
making mothers out of girls.
Exceptionally witty repertoire
lost on foggy ears.
The profound and bizarre
brings belly-laughs and tears.
False dawn brings false hope
of eternity in autumn.
One last fleeting grope
and then it is forgotten.

This reminds me of how it was back in the times of "free love" (1960's & 70's) . . . even if not engaged in a sexual conquest, per se, lots of people were simply open about grabbing & kissing & peeling, almost anyone, almost anywhere. When I mention such historic escapades to today's youth, I get a response as if they're grossed out by the thought of casual physical contact. How far we've come. How far we've gone. After a year or two of face masks, maybe people will be grossed out by the blatant sight of uncovered smiles! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

PS . . . I find nothing in your poem to be described as being remotely religious! Ha! Ha!

Good poem for halloween. I picture someone with a goat's head involved in all of this revelry. Might not be what you intended but it's the image that you invoked in me. It was inspiring. thanks.
