Tuesday Night

Tuesday Night

A Poem by TTBoy28

Don't let my face get in the way

of the soft, cool melody you want to play

Just let me listen

 and sway

And when you're done, I'll be on my way

Unless I can add

just a tad of what I wrote down

on my pad

It would be the best day I always had

But don't let the trouble on my face

 take the place

of that beautiful song's state of grace

Everybody's got a little sorrow

I just don't wanna keep mine

 until tomorrow

If you know what tonight is

then let's put it down in a song

We don't have to change the melody

this is one feeling we can't get wrong

Start out playing it slow

and pick up a bit in the middle

Let me talk about something I know

like my daddy on the porch playing his fiddle

But don't let the trouble on my face

 take the place

of that beautiful song's state of grace

Everybody's got a little sorrow

I just don't wanna keep mine

 until tomorrow

Making love was using our voices

it was the best to do

of all the other choices

I remember how Daddy's fingers

and the treble now that still lingers

could make the birds in the trees stop and listen

and the fish would get caught

just so they could be brought

into the house to hear what they might be missin'

All this was right

like every night was Tuesday Night

Even the children had soul

and played their role

Singing of happiness not sadness

despite a world of madness

Tuesday Night was alright

that's when love was made outta sight

Making love was using our voices

it was the best to do

of all the other choices

Everybody's got a little sorrow

I just don't wanna keep mine

 until tomorrow

I just wanna do like my daddy did

and make everybody smile like they did

 when I was a kid

.
. what an amazingly beautiful, poignant, and mellifluous song this is ... and the repetitions of lines with variations has worked extremely well for the narrative ... making it accessible to the reader in a very inclusive way ... and these lines especially are just too magical and profound and overwhelming ...
