Nothing Was Ever Going His Way

Nothing Was Ever Going His Way

A Poem by T. Edana Talbott

Nothing was ever going his way.
No day was ever his day.
He’d smile and act his best, but for what in the end?

Not a single glance was thrown in his direction.
He was never the source of any girl’s affection.

Nothing was ever going his way.

He had buddies, but their presence was momentary.
There was a girl he liked, but they would never go “steady.”

Nothing was ever going his way.

He lived life day to day, but how would it end?
Few tears were shed, but not many smiles were meant.

Nothing was ever going his way.

Nothing was ever truly his.
He didn’t use words, but bloodied fists.

Nothing was ever going his way.

He’d dream at night for a better tomorrow.
Would he ever know anything but this pitiful sorrow?

Or would nothing ever change?
Would something someday go his way?

Hardly anything goes the way we want. People we love perish, innocence dies, relationships are eradicated. Still, we must go with the motions. Whatever we may feel or experience, we can choose to hold them and let that dominate our perceptions of reality, or we can fight to see a brighter future. Nothing ends in darkness. Even the darkest shade of light holds peace.

Sorry for my rambling! Great work!

I hope so, I really do. This is beautifully written, with such a soft flow, echoing the feeling of that sigh when things don't go our way, and keep not going our way. Sad words, wonderfully written.

Thank you so much, Nemo. And I hope so too.
Just a perfect representation of what dealing with depression feels like. The day to day sorrow that we feel. The belief that nothing will ever go the way we want. And even when it does, we sit and we wait for the next storm to blow our way. Beautiful poem!

Thank you very much, Sarah :)
This is really drowning in sadness, which is sad enough. Sometimes life just kicks the hell out of you, and it seems to last forever. But in reality, that is life.
