View the Real You

View the Real You

A Poem by T. Edana Talbott

Little darling, there’s a place for you off of this stage,

No need to play like a doll each day,

Go ahead and wipe that plastered smile off your face.

It’s okay, it’s okay.

You’re all dirty inside and out, no need to hide,

What it is you’re about;

The crowd is gone and they’ve said so long,

They won’t be back ‘til sunrise,

To watch with glee, your reprise.

Quit speaking your pretty words,

There’s no such thing as the perfect sentence;

So talk about your issues and thoughts on religion,

Be as improper and incorrect, it’s your decision.

Unless you prefer being their puppet,

Just go on and say f**k it!

Watch them gasp in horror,

As you laugh with glee,

They’ll view the real you,

And won’t like what they see.

But you don’t live for them, do you?

You’re no movie, this is no sneak preview.

The bible tells you what to do,

But you’re no saint, if only they knew -

Should they dissect your brain,

How gross it would be,

To view the real you.

At least that’s what they try and say,

See, it’s just their way,

To subdue you - the real you.

They suffocate your reality,

And douse your flame out,

With fantasy; it’s a travesty.

Such a tragedy...

your words hit true society tries to control peoples lives because they have little grasp on their own and it makes them feel like they have some semblance of control even if it is only an illusion they stomp on you until whats left is an unrecognizable heap emotions and then hate or fear you having such emotions and look with disgust for expressing yourself in the only way you know how the seed has been planted and you start doubting whether it really your fault and a distorted self image is formed worn battered and torn filled with self hate and fear of losing control such the cycle is amazing write it may have not been exactly what you were trying to say but i like that you took the attitude to just say f**k it i am no ones puppet i really connected with this write deeply great job !!! what a beautiful soul so glad i got to read this (:

Superb .... WOW... Brilliant... 100/ 100...

I am saying this as I can resonate with each and every line in this. I can tell that it is written from the heart and it is the naked truth. The truth could hurt the most but it is as polished and sublime like diamonds for others. I was also thinking of writing a play on how people seem to live under the masks which society makes for them and are afraid to showcase their true colours. This piece also has sound advice for those who are afraid to simply come out in the open about who they really are.
It is Brave, it is courageous.

Kudos/

People will always find something nasty to say about someone no matter what. No one is perfect. So yeah we should all be ourselves without worrying what society says or thinks. The only thing is it's not easy. This poem is so real. Well written.

Boldly written but very true. This is the fun of writing. One can completely be true in their thoughts.

A struggle that many women face, you have worded for others to glimpse into. For some, your description of the circumstance via your words may seem raw and uncomfortable. For me its "Hell yeah!" Thank you for sharing!
