MATTHEW KNOWS.

MATTHEW KNOWS.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN WATCHES A WOMAN SLEEP.

"

Matthew knows the ropes.
The girl lies sleeping on the
Pink pillow. He will not wake
Her yet, he’ll watch her sleep,
See the eyelids move, the lips
Make motion, the hands reach
About as if in sleep or dream
She’s found another love to touch.
He wants to kiss her cheek, but
Not to wake, wants to know her
Thoughts, but the not the words.
She turns. Her knees rise, her hands
Fold tight in between her thighs like
Pilgrims at prayer. Turning away, he
Says in soft breath, if only I was there.

This is almost like a spirit watching over someone they love. Someone the long to caress and yearn for deeply.
