Can You Sleep?

Can You Sleep?

A Poem by Creepy Swine Guy
"

Obviously the ability to sleep is not an indictment but is meant figuratively to ask, "Are you not troubled?"

"

Can you sleep with what you know?

Can you sleep, or does the snarling

of little stomachs keep you awake?

Can you sleep, or does the distant

thunder of falling death keep you up?

Can you sleep, or can you hear the

grim multiplying of malevolent cells?

Can you sleep, or does the pattering

of rain on tent cities echo in your ears?

Can you sleep, or do you toss and turn

over the non-education of the children?

Can you sleep, or do the vanishing Kiwis,

Tigers and Polar Bears stalk your dreams?

Can you sleep, or does the clanging of the

homeless, sleeping on grates keep you up?

Can you sleep? If so, tell me please,

what it is you now keep in the gaping

chasm where you once kept a soul?

well said Creepy! sharp pointed reminders in each and every line ... i am old and do not sleep well at night ..but boy can i ever nap the hell out of the afternoon;) ..not to make light of your expression .. your poem reminds me of the Bible verse that says something like ... there is plenty of evil in the day ..please don't try and carry tomorrow's ... the world and all our troubles overwhelm the fortitude of granite .. but we ..are not meant to be made of such stone ..we can try and do what we can ..tho it seems so small ... so very small ... all of us needing trust of heart and mind in God :) yes sir ...in God ..the all reduced to ..the all expanded to ..the absolute eternal all ;)
its going to be OK! :)
love and peace bro!

I do not sleep well, the weight of the world weighs heavily on me as does the weight of my life. Sleep it seems is a luxury I no longer can afford.

For me, sleep becomes more of a luxury with age.
Good questions. Thought provoking...:)

No This is a wonderful poem of truth and awareness - the subjects are not so wonderful though- made me feel so so sad. Fine writing.

The repetition of 'Can you sleep?' gives the feeling of a sleepless night! I think you have got us all tossing and turning! Enjoyed reading this.
